Allen College faculty, staff, students and trustees volunteer on MLK Day

Allen College faculty, staff, students and trustees spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day participating in a day a service to honor the legacy of Dr. King. Approximately 21 Allen College volunteers participated in the Northeast Iowa Food Bank’s (NEIFB) “Pack the Dome” event.  The NEIFB provides prepacked meals and snacks for area school children who suffer from insecurity. The volunteers spent the afternoon organizing individual bags to be distributed to the children. In 2023, the NEIFB distributed 100,000 bags of food to school children, with over 75% of the bags being prepared at last year’s Pack the Dome event. During this year’s event, the 1,500 volunteers packaged 60,000 bags of food for the backpack program.
