Maynard & Mary Jean Murch
Congratulations to Maynard '74 and Mary Jean '79 Murch on being inducted to the 2023 Allen College Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. The award is reserved for individuals who are committed to making significant contributions to healthcare, education and within their communities.
During his career, Maynard held numerous positions, including education coordinator for the Medical Technology program, lead technologist to build Sunquest, the current laboratory information system, and director, a position he held until his retirement in 2016.
Mary Jean worked as a pediatric RN at St. Francis (now MercyOne) for 17 years. From 1996 to 2015 Mary Jean served as a school nurse at Tripoli Community School District and in 2016 began working at MercyOne in employee health until she retired in 2021.
Maynard and Mary Jean are also very engaged in their community. Maynard is a lector at his church and served on the parish council, while Mary Jean was the parish nurse and has been an organist for the past 20 years. Both are heavily involved with Black Hawk County 4H. Mary Jean was instrumental in the restoration of Bennington No. 4 School, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Maynard is currently the Co-chair of the Bennington Neighborhood Association.
In 2015 they became members of the Gerard Circle and Maynard joined the Allen College Board of Trustees in 2023.
