September 2, 2010

Waterloo, Iowa—Allen College’s Associate of Science in Radiography (ASR) program was recently awarded the ‘Maintenance of Accreditation’ for the maximum eight-year accreditation period by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), the nation's premier radiography governing body. The next accreditation site visit will be in 2014.

Dr. Peggy Fortsch, dean of Allen College’s School of Health Sciences, stated "We are very pleased with the outcome of this accreditation process. The ‘Maintenance of Accreditation’ status of our radiography program assures students that our program meets JRCERT’s rigorous standards and documents the high quality of our program.” According to Allen Chancellor Dr. Jerry Durham, “The ASR faculty exemplify the work of all of our faculty to provide outstanding academic programs in nursing and health sciences.  I applaud them for their continuing efforts to maintain high standards that benefit both our students and health care consumers in the Cedar Valley and beyond.”

The ASR program, which enrolls about 30 students each year, transferred from Allen Memorial Hospital to Allen College in 1996. Under the sponsorship of Allen College, 100% of ASR graduates have passed the national certification examination on first attempt. In addition to the ASR program, Allen’s School of Health Sciences also offers programs in nuclear medicine technology, diagnostic medical sonography, and medical laboratory science.
