Allen College Chancellor Co-Edits Book

Allen College's chancellor, Jerry Durham, PhD, RN, FAAN, is the co-editor of the recently released book The Person with HIV/AIDS: Nursing Perspectives (4th Ed.). The book's other coeditor is Felissa Lashley, PhD, RN, FAAN, recently retired dean of nursing at Rutgers University. The first edition of the book, published in 1990 and the nation's first HIV/AIDS textbook written for nurses, won American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year awards. According to the book's publisher, Springer Publishing Company: "This updated edition is a vital resource for nurses and other health care professionals providing care to HIV-positive persons in the 21st century. the contributors present essential information on the medical assessment and management of symptoms, the prevention of infection, ethical and legal dimensions of care, and much more. With a greater emphasis on the international dimensions of the HIV pandemic and the treatment of minority populations, this book serves as an essential guide for nurses and health care practitioners serving patients with HIV/AIDS." The seventeen chapter book has 22 contributors, including chancellor Durham whose chapter focuses on the ethical and legal dimensions of HIV/AIDS. Chancellor Durham has previously co-edited books focusing on tuberculosis; emerging infectious diseases; women, children, and HIV/AIDS; and psychiatric nursing private practice.
