A student must earn a minimum of 124 credit hours to earn the Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree.

  • General Education Courses:  88 credit hours
  • Public Health Courses:  36 credit hours

General Education Requirements:

All 88 credit hours of required general education coursework must be completed prior to enrollment at Allen College. Students attend a regionally accredited institution of their choice to complete the general education courses.

  • Humanities: (15 credits)
    • Written Communication (6 credit hours) (including AC:306 taken at Allen College)
    • Oral Communication (3 credit hours)
    • Humanities Electives (6 credit hours)
      Defined by Allen College as Art, Music, Theatre, Dance, English, Foreign Language, Philosophy, History, Cultures, Civilization, Literature, Religion, Economics and Communication Arts.  
  • Social Sciences: (12 credits)
    • Sociology (3 credit hours)
    • Psychology (3 credit hours)
    • Social Science Electives (6 credit hours)
      Defined by Allen College as Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology
  • Natural Sciences Electives: (17 credit hours, up to 8 credit hours per each subject area)
    Defined by Allen College as Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Mathematics and Physics. At least one course (minimum 3 credit hours) must have a lab.
  • Diversity Elective (3 credit hours) 
  • General Elective Requirements: (41 credit hours)
    Defined by Allen College as any transferable college level course (Students with an Associate degree in health care will be automatically awarded 41 General Elective credits).

    Students must earn at least 124 credit hours for the degree Bachelor of Health Science with a major in Public Health.  All general education coures, except AC: 306 Professional Communication, must be completed at a regionally accredited institution of the student's choice.
